BeerBong - Future Behind Us (Review)

So long time ago between in the middle of the 90’s the conventional punk rock suffers a conventional modifications into experimental shapes transforming the classic punk rock in more mature musical shapes, from this new kind of modifications, grow up subgenres as melodic hardcore and the most purest technical subgenre known until these days, the glorious fast melodic hardcore. A specific history that I told you take place in some local suburbs from Gurizia Italy, so we can see that italian fast melodic hardcore takes their purest origins in the north of Italy with BeerBong, one of the first melodic punk rock bands that takes the punk rock to a new musical and dedicated levels.
BeerBong releases their first two homemade works in the middle of the 90’s with the genre in his purest young shape: Banfi’s Law (1996) and Crash (1997), two years later the first large production comes out with the natural and more defined own style of BeerBong with Fast and Comfortable (1999), the end of the first phase of BeerBong comes to the end with an EP Business Called Fun (2001) after that two new members join the band: Lorenzo Zangheri (main vocalist) and Federico Tanzi (guitars), with the enter into the stage by Lorenzo turns the old vocals style of BeerBong into a new one, but the instrumental and musical shapes except the vocals of the band still be the same with more technically and more faster than ever before.
With this new era comes with two new and awesome albums: BeerBong (2004) and Murder Party (2006) both large productions albums (LP), after that last album a few years later the band split up and every member takes his own ways, but the legends turn back from the ashes some time, and BeerBong announced the last year that they come back with their old vocalist Simone Zuin, and that they are working in new music: Future Behind (2018) the second EP released this year featured by 7 new songs.

Feed Forward
The intro song starts with a short instrumental with perfect drums and awesome guitars after that the typical speed and technique of BeerBong rises again since their last album with the old vocalist, the great breakdown of the drums gives to the song another different musical senses.

Shocking Wave
A new singularity of musical art makes this one song awesome, with the unique old style of BeerBong comes with Shocking Wave, with a nice repeat formula in the riff guitars with the drums, with short lyrics in this particular song make it from the start to the end more enjoyable and funny.

Future Behind Us
The start of the slope in the EP starts here and add that isn’t the strongest song particularly when it has the name of the whole EP and has the longest duration that any other song in the EP, it seems like a down in the performance quality that another thing after two great past songs so Future Behind Us don’t get that it gets with Feed Forward o Shocking Wave.

You Might!
If Future Behind Us starts to decrease the quality in the whole EP it seems with You Might the that quality don’t grow up and maintain the same level that Future Behind Us, nice song after all but sounds a little forced in the vocals performance in the most top moments in the song.

One More Chance
Trying to revive the awesome level of the first two songs One More Chance stays too close to reach the goal maybe the good point to save in this case is the song is more catchy and has the same level of speed of the first three songs too close with Future Behind Us song that the first two songs

Mental Emptiness
The second song with most length in the EP and seems that the quality of the EP down in the worst level something that start to appear since the song Future Behind Us, the only nice in this song is the end with a great riff solo that it has.

Straight No Chaser
Straight No Chaser begins with a unknown how good or bad going to be this song with a uncertain intro of the song the doubts stars to fill our brains, but it excepts likes the final song always be so fucking good to finally reach the quality of the two first songs, similar in the ultra speed and the technical performance of the song that appears in Murder Party album titled Open Season.

Conclusion: Future Behind Us is the spiritual successor of the last EP curiously with the same vocalist Business Called Fun with awesome two initial songs and for bad a down in the quality in the consequent songs with a partial rise like the initial quality with the last song. Too many things seems that don’t come back as the initial original BeerBong all of it is part of the evolution of the band but maintain the most essential unique and awesome style in this new EP.

Final Score: ★★★✩✩
