Lizardo Sáenz (Skatepunk Or Die) Entrevista A Mario Gallardo (Screaming Fastcore)

Entrevista a Mario Gallardo (Screaming Fastcore) realizada por Lizardo Sáenz (Skatepunk Or Die / Play Attenchon).

Mauricio Gómez (Tropical Punk Records) Entrevista A Mario Gallardo (Screaming Fastcore)

Rodrigo Alfaro (Mega Post & Full Discography)

Since I started listening to skatepunk, Satanic Surfers was one of the key bands in my musical growth inside the genre. And since I knew that Rodrigo played the drums and sang at the same time, he inmediatly became one of my most admired musicians to this day.
Something that always caught my attention, was that I practically never, saw Alfaro wearing a punk band t-shirt. I always saw some kind of crust-metal-ish logos on his t-shirts.
Little by little, I researched more and more, and I realized that there was a whole world behind "the Satanic Surfers' singer".
Outside of being a tenor singer; Rodrigo is an incredibly versatile and multifacetic musician, since he has/has had bands of diverse musical styles (from punk rock to death metal), and playing all instruments or assuming different roles.
Alfaro was also the owner of Sounds Of Betrayal and Putrid Filth Conspiracy (both Swedish hardcore/punk/grindcore labels). He's currently running Blood Harvest Records (Swedish death/thrash/black metal label) and he's part of Mondo Macabre Records (label run by current Satanic Surfers members).
Rodrigo has always been a low profile dude in social networks (he admits to being antisocial) and if that were not enough, he has projects in which he uses pseudonyms such as "Ertheb Somus-Ra", "h6r6a6m" or "R", to name a few. Which makes it very difficult to keep track of him. For all this, I can say that this research has been very hard and it has taken me weeks to gather the information. However, I've learned and I've enjoyed the process a lot.
Well, then, let's take a look at most of his projects and participations, alphabetically. Or at least a 95% of them, cause I know that he's currently working on new music and still-unnamed projects.

💀 Atlas Losing Grip
Facebook:
www.facebook.com/atlaslosinggrip

Probably, Alfraro's most well-known music project after the Surfers. So, is not necessary giving you much info about them.
Atlas Losing Grip was founded in 2005 by Stefan Bratt (vocals/bass) and Gustav Brunn (guitar). I think Stefan and Rodrigo became close friends in Enemy Alliance era, during 2007-2008. Shortly after, in 2009, Rodrigo assumes the role of vocalist till 2014 (exactly when they finished recording "Currents").
Stefan Bratt, is currently playing with No Fun At All; and the other guitarist, Max Huddén, is currently playing with Satanic Surfers.

Atlas Losing Grip - Watching The Horizon (2009) - V0 (CD-Rip)
Atlas Losing Grip - State Of Unrest (2011) - V0 (CD-Rip)
Atlas Losing Grip - Atlas Losing Grip 7" (2011) - V0 (Vinyl-Rip)
Atlas Losing Grip - Currents (2015) - V0 (CD-Rip)

💀 Enemy Alliance
Facebook: www.facebook.com/enemyallianceofficial

This project started after Satanic Surfers break up, back in 2007; as a fusion between members of the Surfers (Fredrik & Rodrigo) and Venerea (Dana & Andreas) with the exception of Stefan who was already playing on Atlas Losing Grip.
On the split album Rodrigo played drums only, the singer was Venerea's Andreas Flygare.
After that, most of members left the band, so, only Rodrigo (vocals/
drums) and Stefan (all strings) kept working together and recorded a 13-song full-length album called "Damnation Dawning" in 2008.
Shortly after, the band entered on indefinite hiatus and the album stayed unreleased to this day. In 2016 the band announced that they were back, but there were only few posts and no news about the album. They only let known that Champ (ex-Astream) and Max (ex-Atlas Losing Grip) joined the band.

Enemy Alliance & The Indecision Alarm - The New Wind And The Second Wave (2007) - V0 (CD-Rip)
Enemy Alliance - Unreleased Songs (2008) - 128

💀 Everyday Madness
Facebook: www.facebook.com/EVERYDAY-MADNESS-89049454396

Everyday Madness played fast-paced old-school hardcore punk with a great mix of female and male vocals. The line up without including both singers, would be: Alfaro on drums, Fredrik & Magnus (from Satanic Surfers) on guitars and Magnus' brother, Mathias, (who'd play bass with the Surfers in 2000-2002 and with Intensity in 2004) on four strings.
As far as I know, the band only put out this album in 1997 via Bad Taste Records. Solid record.

Everyday Madness - Preaching To The Converted (1997) - 320

💀 Intensity

Intensity was a hardcore punk band which started as a one-man project in 1995.
Several of the songs which later appeared on the band's debut album, were originally recorded at first as demo-tracks by Alfaro alone, playing all the instruments.
After a bit of convincing from Björn of Bad Taste Records, Rodrigo started Intensity together with some friends. So, he remained as the singer/frontman while the band lived.

Intensity - Bought And Sold (1996) - 320
Intensity - Battered Soul 7" (1997) - 192
Intensity - Wash Off The Lies 10" (1998) - 320
Intensity - Virtue Of Progress 7" (1999) - 256
Intensity - Live At Squat Rozbrat (2000) - 320
Intensity - The Ruins Of Our Future (2001) - 320
Antichrist & Intensity - The Centre Of Universal Truths Is Dying (2003) - 192
Intensity - Limited Japan Tour Record (2003) - 320
Intensity - Unreleased Recording (2003) - V0 (Bandcamp)
Intensity - Ruttna Bort E.P. 7" (2004) - 320
Intensity & E-150 - Split E.P. (2004) - 192

💀 Kontrovers
Facebook:
www.facebook.com/Kontrovers-Fan-page-133642883394746

Kontrovers was a political, aggressive crust-core act founded in 1996. Stefan Larsson, (who's Satanic Surfers current drummer) was the lead singer here; till he moved temporarily to Barcelona and was replaced by a girl named Carin, for a while. Fredrik Jakobsen (from Satanic Surfers) also played guitar on this band. Rodrigo was the drummer and he also signed/recorded Kontrovers on his label, Putrid Filth Conspiracy.

Detestation & Operation & Kontrovers - Punk Art Riot (1998) - 192
Kontrovers - Skendemokrati 7" (1999) - 192
Beyond Description & Kontrovers - Split (1999) - 160
Kontrovers - Kontrovers (2002) - 192
Kontrovers - När Spelreglerna Ändras (2003) - 320
Kontrovers & Mass Separation - Resist. Refuse. Destroy (2004) - 160

💀 Left In Ruins

Left In Ruins was a grindcore-powerviolence band formed in 1998. Mr. Alfaro only played drums for 2011 album, and he also recorded the whole thing. Johan (from Widespread Bloodshed) played all strings on that album.

Left In Ruins - Ensam Hatisk Psykstörd 10" (2011) - 320

💀 Maligner
Facebook: www.facebook.com/malignerband

Maligner is one of the most recent/active Alfaro's projects. This time from the death-thrash metal side. The band was started in late 2015 by Aztiak (who also has Latin American roots) and Rodrigo.
The Satanic Surfers' frontman plays drums here.
Debut's Maligner full-length album was released just last month via
Blood Harvest Records!

Maligner - Promo (2016) - V0 (Bandcamp)
Maligner - Demon (2016) - 320
Maligner - Attraction To Annihilation (2018) - 320

💀 Necrovation
Facebook: www.facebook.com/necrovationdeathmetal

Necrovation was a death metal power-trio, where Rodrigo, played second guitar, only as a live musician during 2009.
He also signed Necrovation on his label Blood Harvest Records and collaborated in some arrangements for 2012 album.
You can see him on the right side of the stage, highlighting his most-metalhead-look ever!

💀 Quick Fix

Quick Fix was one of Rodrigo's most ephemeral musical projects. Playing raw hardcore punk combining elements of NYHC and Boston HC along with elements of early Swedish HC.

Rodrigo was the vocals on this EP. I don't know if he also played drums or any other instrument in there. Apparently, the 6-track EP was their only release. I really recommend you to check this out.

Quick Fix - 6 Track EP 7" (2008) - V0 (Bandcamp)

💀 Satanic Surfers
Facebook: www.facebook.com/satanic.surfers.official

Well, I could write a bigger post than this one, talking about the Surfers...
That's not necessary, cause you can easily find their complete bio on Wikipedia or similars. I'll only say that's the only pic I've ever seen of Rodrigo wearing a punk hoodie, and it's a NOFX one from 1992, I think!

I guess y'all already have the Satanic Surfers full discography, but in case you're missing something, here's a link.

💀 Sewn Shut

Let's go back to louder stuff from the hand of Sewn Shut. This one was a grindcore band with death metal influences, which originally started in 1999 as a one-man-project with Rodrigo playing all the instruments. He composed the band's debut record, at its entirely.
After that, his friend Esse (who'd later play bass for Widespread Bloodshed) joined the band as guitarist along some other dude. So, Alfaro assumed drums and vocal-duties.

Sewn Shut - Masquerading The Guilty In A Garb Of Innocence (1999) - 192
Sewn Shut - By The Weakest Thread Of Lies (2000) - 192
Mind Collage & Sewn Shut - Split (2000) - 192

Sewn Shut - Rediscovering The Dead (2005) - V0 (Bandcamp)
Nashgul & Sewn Shut - Split (2006) - V2

💀 Ursut
Facebook: www.facebook.com/pg/ursut.hardcorepunk

Ursut is a four-piece crusty hardcore punk band, formed in 2008 and still active.
Mattias Persson (ex-Kontrovers) plays the guitar and "The Hero Of Our Time" plays drums in there.

Ursut - Mot Vägen? (2009) - V2 (CD-Rip)
Ursut - Dårarnas Paradis (2011) - V2 (CD-Rip)
Ursut - Köp Dig Lycklig (2016) - V0 (CD-Rip)

💀 Venerea
Facebook: www.facebook.com/venereaofficial

Ok, this is one of my favorite line-ups ever. In my opinion, Rodrigo fitted so well in Venerea!
Alfaro joins Venerea right after Enemy Alliance enters on indefinite hiatus, back in 2008.
I really love his drumming on both Venerea releases.

Bonus data:
Ex-Venerea's Martin Svensson, played drums on Satanic Surfers 2002 album "Unconsciously Confined".
Venerea's guitarist, Dana Johansson was replacing Fredrik during Satanic Surfers 2015 Latin American Tour.

Venerea - Black Beach Recordings 7" (2008) - V0 (Bandcamp)
Venerea - Lean Back In Anger (2010) - V0 (Bandcamp)

💀 Warfare

Here we have another ephemeral duo-project from Mr. Alfaro. Warefare showed a kind of hardcore punk/d-beat, with Rodrigo on all instruments along and his friend Henke, on gutural vocals.
This 8-song demo was probably recorded in 2000 and never got officially released.

Warfare - Unreleased Demo (2000) - V0 (Bandcamp)

💀 Widespread Bloodshed

Widespread Bloodshed is a hardcore thrash punk "studio-project" that Rodrigo started in 2003 with his long-time-friend Johan on bass (whom also played along him in Left In Ruins) and his old neighbor and friend, Esse on guitar (whom also played along him in Sewn Shut). Alfaro plays drums and does vocal-duties in this project.
All songs are written and recorded in the studio whenever they manage to find the time to meet up.

Widespread Bloodshed - 49 More Reasons To Hate Emo (2005) - V0 (Bandcamp)

👿 Bonus Songs

Atlas Losing Grip - Shut The World Out
This "Shut The World Out" version feat. Rodrigo Alfaro on vocals, is an exclusive bonus track which belongs to "Watching The Horizon" 10" vinyl released by Can't Slow Down Records in 2010. This song originally appears at band's debut album "Shut The World Out".

Enemy Alliance - Moth

That exclusive song was released on "Swedish Punk Rock Sampler Compilation", out on September 2011.
The song also belongs to the
full-length album called "Damnation Dawning", which I mentioned lines above.

Rodrigo Alfaro - The Love Of My Life
Rodrigo performed this song on acoustic before an Atlas Losing Grip's show in Bilbao, Spain on September 24th, 2011. I don't know if he already has recorded it on studio version or if he's working on more acoustic/folk stuff. I think an Alfaro's acoustic solo-album would be great, anyway.

Satanic Surfers - Another Stale Cartoon
This 30-second song appears exclusively on 1999 Fat Wreck Chords compilation, "Short Music For Short People".

Satanic Surfers - Callousness (Demo Version)
That demo recording was streamed only through Satanic Surfers website on August 8th, 2005, as a sneak peek of their upcoming-album-in-that-era, "Taste The Poison".

👿 Curiosities & Nerdery

- I know Rodrigo's birthday is on September 6th, but I don't know the exact year... 1971-73, maybe?
- Rodrigo emigrated with his parents from Montevideo, Uruguay to Malmö, Sweden when he was just a 4 year-old kid.
He still has family living in Uruguay, though.
- In Uruguay, Rodrigo's father (Walter Alfaro) was a well-know pianist, composer and radio entertainer on "CX14 Radio El Espectador", where he worked between 1933-1969. As expected, he started Rodrigo with his passion for music.
- Mr. Walter Alfaro, wrote lyrics for Intensity's songs: "Canto A La Muerte" and "Rebelde Y Vagabundo", he also interpreted the spoken-vocals for this last one.
- Rodrigo speaks spanish on intermediate level (not so fluid); but, if you talk him in spanish, "él te responde en español".
- Rodrigo has two children, (boy and girl) apparently twins, from an ex-relationship.
- Rodrigo, apparently played drums in a death metal band from Denmark, called Sulphurous, between 2012-2016. According Discogs and MetalArchives.com, he was in the band, but according official Sulphurous' Bandcamp and Facebook, he was not in there...
Well, you know our buddy; always keeping his low profile on the scene.
- I have no doubts, that Rodrigo has been a huge influence for many contemporary musicians, to reach the goal of playing drums and singing at once, such as Étienne Dionne from Mute and Alessandro Gavazzi from Jet Market/Thousand Oaks. I really hope more people with that talent show up in future skatepunk generations!

Without more to add, I give this megapost closed. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
Special thanks to my friend Abraham, for helping me out to get rare recordings from some projects.

P.S. I know some few people in the world own the complete version of "
Enemy Alliance - Damnation Dawning". If you're one of them, please contact me. - Mario.

Scott Sellers (Mega Post & Full Discography)

Scott Sellers is a musician, singer and music producer from Rancho Cucamonga, California. He was born on September 5th, 1982 and started his music career with Rufio at 17-18, approximately.
Well, beside the insane fast beats, I've always been a lover of two things on skatepunk, basically: great vocal melodies and good technical performance on music.
All Scott's projects have both features and many more to offer! It's the perfect mix between the catchiness of pop punk vocals/lyrics and the shredness of heavy metal strings. His music is emotive, honest and full of energy.
That's why I felt encouraged to review his entire musical career (known to date), through this post. So, here we go, fellas!

💥 Rufio
Facebook: www.facebook.com/rufiomusic

Rufio is by far, the most well-known music act of Sellers. There's a bunch of Rufio's bios on the web, so I prefer giving you the original version, exactly as was on (now dead) Rufio's website, back in 2001.
Once upon a time, there was 2 guys that were sick of sitting at home, wishing they were in a band. A good band at that. One of them said "Hey, lets try some people out to play drums for us." The other one said "we should huh!?" so they went out on a long journey, to find the missing piece of the pie. They tried and treid, but no one could cut it! Just when they thought there was no hope, one of them said "Mike is the best in the town! I wonder if he will play with us for a while!" The next day, the 2 little boys went to micheals house. "hey mike, wanna play with us for a while"...mike thought for a moment and said "Sure, ill play for a while" so with that, it all began. "The Band" practiced and practiced, but still, something was missing. "I think we need a lead guitar player" said the 3 little boys. So again, they went on a quest to find a lead guitarist. Finally after searching and searching, they found gool ol' Clark! Clark was the hessian metal-head who turned on his race!(the metal-heads) finally "the band" was a band! Then one day, another little boy came along and said "you should be called RUFIO"...the 4 little boys agreed that RUFIO was the name they have been searching for....so they became a band yatta yatta enough with the story bull...i was just bored i guess...boredom ey?
👉 Line-up evolution

Taylor Albaugh - Bass (2010-2012 / 2015)

Rufio was active since 2000, till they disbanded for the first time, between 2006-2007. With new bassist and drummer, they were back together in 2010, until their definitive break up, in July, 2012. After that, the band only played a reunion show on June 20, 2015 at the Montebello Amnesia Rockfest in Canada.

👉 Previous, following and side projects

Before being part of Rufio, Jon Berry was the former bassist of melodic punk band, Sick Of Change. He only played with them on their demo and 1999 album, "In Our Time Of Need". After leaving Rufio, Berry became part of  power pop act, Runner Runner.
Since Mike Jimenez left Rufio, citing creative differences, he joins to an indie rock band, called Science Fiction Theater.
On the other hand, Sellers and Clark Domae started a new band, called BigCity (the one in the photo). According to MySpace, BigCity released an EP or album, titled "The Quest For Power" in 2008. Sadly, I couldn't find it anywhere on the web. I don't even know what genre they used to play...

💥 Mercy Street
Facebook: www.facebook.com/MercyStreetRock

After Rufio's final breaking up, in 2012; Sellers kept jamming out along with Rufio's latest bassist, Taylor Albaugh, so they created a new project, called Mercy Street.
The band released their debut EP during the same year, and two years later, in 2014, their only full-length album, titled "Let Me Live". Amazing songwriting and a very Rufio-esque sound on both releases.

Mercy Street - Mercy Street EP (2012) - V0 (Bandcamp)
Mercy Street - Let Me Live (2014) - V0 (Bandcamp)
No physical editions of these two releases.

💥 Scott Sellers
Facebook: www.facebook.com/ScottSellersMusic

Well, I don't know exactly when Scott started working out on his solo project. Around 2011-2012, maybe?
If there's something that I admire about Sellers, that's his huge creativity, it's such he's always writing new songs and surprising us with great stuff. As happened in 2018, year which our boy delighted us with 3 albums as a solo artist, in the same year.
He stays unstoppable this 2019. He's already released an album, titled "Being Strange" last February, and he's currently working on a new record. Keep it up, Scotty!

Scott Sellers - Garage Sessions (2012) - V0 (Bandcamp)

These 19 demo songs, were shared one by one during 5 years, on Scott's Soundcloud profile. Many of these songs were re-recorded and used on Sellers' 2018 albums. Once Scott released "The Judge", all demo songs were deleted, then he started uploading only official versions.

Scott Sellers - Facebook Demos (Unofficial) (2019) - 256
These 11 demo tracks, were shared one by one on Scott's personal Facebook profile (as videos) during this year. There are 2 covers, one for MxPx's "Your Problem My Emergency " and other one for NUFAN's "Life Size Mirror". The leftover 9 songs, remains un-named to date. It's very probable that several of them be re-recorded and used on future Sellers' works.
Scott Sellers (Guest Vocals) - 320

• "Tiempo De Volver" for Ecuadorian melodic punk band, Billy Meier. - Tiempo De Volver EP (2012).

Slick Shoes (Mega Post & Full Discography)

Slick Shoes are close to release new music since almost 15 years! Well, here I share a mega post with all their stuff and all info I know about the band. Enjoy it!

👉 The beginning

Slick Shoes is a poppy skatepunk band from Antelope Valley, California formed in late 1994 from the ashes of the local band Today's Special, reuniting guitarist Jackson Mould with drummer Joe Nixon. Over the next year, the duo worked at writing songs before recruiting bassist Jeremiah Brown. Jackson initially assumed vocal duties,
until they met Ryan, who was Jackson's girlfriend's little brother. With the addition of then 14-year-old frontman Ryan Kepke, the Slick Shoes line up was complete, and within two weeks, the band signed to the Tooth & Nail label to issue their self-titled 1997 debut EP. Their line-up suffered many changes through the years, so let's give it a deep view...

👉 All releases, all presses and nerdery

Demo Tape #1 (199x)

As you've noticed, they were called "Slik Shoes" before "Slick Shoes".
Slik Shoes was a three-piece band in 1995-1996, so Jackson is the main singer on those recordings.

I don't know the exact release date and which songs are on this demo. Maybe early versions of "Silence" and "I Guess"?...

Demo Tape #2 (1996)
This 2nd demo has 3 songs with Jackson still on vocals: "
Five O Grind", "My So Called Real World" and "151". Supposedly, they showed that demo to Tooth & Nail Records and they signed them up to record their first self-titled EP.

Slick Shoes EP (January 21th, 1997)
First 4-song EP with Ryan on vocals and their very first release on Tooth & Nail Records. All their following full-length albums (except Far From Nowhere) were released on Tooth & Nail.
This mini-album was pressed on 7" blue vinyl (some more clearer, some more darker), 7" black vinyl and CD.

Rusty (June 17th, 1997)
Rusty was their debut full-length. 16 songs of pure gold in my opinion. Much people compare it with "MxPx - Life In General" for their "super fast/poppy" sound. I also think that Rusty has a big influence from Life In General but with an unique-cool touch.
This album was pressed on 12" Coke bottle clear vinyl, 12" black vinyl, CD and cassette.
There's also a promo version where "Fall" song is called "I Suck".
Burn Out (July 7th, 1998)
Burn Out followed the same line of Rusty, but with a very more "mature/melancholic" sound, which I love. 1997-1998 were the best Slick Shoes era in my opinion. Jackson was/is a genius on guitar.
This record was released only on CD and cassette.
There's also a promo version which differences to the original one because it has all songs names printed on the CD.

Wake Up Screaming (May 20th, 2000)
Wake Up Screaming has a "slower/more melodic" sound than their previous releases, but really catchy songs.
Since this album all their following records were edited only on CD.
There are two presses with color variations. First press: CDs have red stamp. Second press: CDs have light-blue stamp.
Also exists a two-song sampler cassette with the singles "Angel" and "Have I Said Too Much?".

Split w/ Cooter (May 23th, 2000)

This 4/4-song split was their only release on Fueled By Ramen.
There are two presses with text variations. First press: it says "Slick Shoes & Cooter" on front cover. Second press: it just changed the name "Cooter" to "Autopilot Off".

Slick Shoes (April 9th, 2002)
In this record, the band shows us a "well-defined/solid" pop punk style. My favorite from Greg Togawa era.
There are two CD versions of it. Tooth & Nail digipack version, and a Japanese version on jewel case with OBI strip (no bonus track on that edition). There's also a promo version with a picture of the band as front cover, and also a one-song CD of "Alone" single.
Far From Nowhere (July 8th, 2003)
I think Slick Shoes became bigger with this release. Really good one, but very different than all previous stuff. Only two former members on it (Ryan and Joe).

There are two CD editions of it. SideOneDummy Records edition, and a Japanese edition of Bullion Records with OBI strip, which includes a bonus cover of Dramarama's song "Anything Anything (I'll Give You)" and a small sticker of band's logo.

The Biggest & The Best (November 18th, 2003)
This one is a compilation album of Slick Shoes discography. The three first tracks "Pretend To Be The Same", "Ruled Out" and "Spleen Puncher" are unreleased songs. This "best of" does not include any Far From Nowhere song on it.
Only one CD press was published through Tooth & Nail Records.
That's all about official releases.

👉 More singles, covers and
curiosities

"151" song, which originally appears on 1996 Demo Tape #2 was re-recorded  for 2002 s/t album.
"I Guess" song, which originally appears on 1997 s/t EP was re-recorded in a slower version for Wake Up Screaming album.
"Silence"
song, which originally appears on 1997 s/t EP has an alternate version which appears as hidden track behind "Learn To Unlearn", the last song of Burn Out album.
The song "Clenched Fists, Black Eyes", track 11 of
Burn Out album is a 7 Seconds cover.
"Hope Against Hope" song, which originally appears on their split w/ Cooter was re-recorded  for Far From Nowhere album.
They recorded a cover of Mandy Moore's song "Candy" which is the track 02 of "Punk Goes Pop" compilation released on April 3th, 2002 via Fearless Records.
The song "Once Again" has a demo version which is the track 08 of "Atticus ...Dragging The Lake.II" compilation released on March 17th, 2003 via SideOneDummy Records.
On August 28th, 2004, they shared a random track called "Blackout" which was on streaming via PureVolume and MySpace.

In a 1999's interview Jeremiah said: "We're doing a split EP with Joy Electric in which they cover some of our songs and we cover a couple of their songs. We're also recording The Cure's "Close To Me," and Metallica's "Battery". We're also covering a Keith Green song".

I researched about it and discovered that Joy Electric is an electropop/synthpop band from CA active since 1994. I'm pretty sure that split was cancelled and those covers never saw the light either.

In 1999 Jackson Mould left the band. He was already married with Kelly Kepke (Ryan's big sister). Jackson argued that he just wanted to pursue family life, be a husband and work, because he had a pretty good job. Shortly after, the band met Greg Togawa at a local show, and he became in Jackson's replacement.

By the way, Joe Nixon was also married with Harmony Mould (Jackson's sister).

On January 15th, 2004, Slick Shoes announced on their webpage that bassist Kevin Clark and drummer Joe Nixon have been removed from the band: "Some members felt they didn’t want to continue working to become what we know. Slick Shoes has the potential to be and other members we decided just didn’t fit with us. There are no hard feelings held for any of the past members of Slick Shoes... that’s just the way it happens sometimes. We wish Kevin and Joe the best of luck with whatever projects they decide to pursue next".

The band replaced them with Josh Kleven on bass and Bill Lanz on drums. Never saw a picture or some live footage with that line-up.

On October 7th, 2006 the band issued a statement through their MySpace page saying that they had begun a side project called Sigmund, and that Slick Shoes was on an "indefinite hiatus".
Sigmund was more into a "post hardcore/indie/
alternative" genre. They only had a 6-song self-titled EP while they were active.

Finally, I'd say that Slick Shoes made a trade mark of their style. I really think that without Rusty or Burn Out, bands such as Sick Of Change, Greenroom or Broken Cedars never would've sounded so good. I hope they keep on influencing new waves of skatepunk bands forever!

Donuts N' Glory (Interview & Full Discography)

Donuts N' Glory was a 3-piece short-lived skatepunk band from Costa Mesa, Southern California. They formed in 1994 and kept active until 1996.
"When Pregnasaurs Ruled The Earth..." is their only full-length release and one of the albums I've most ever listened to. Why? Because it catches all the energy from that era plus an unique touch. I simply love those power-chords combined with one-string riffs, great bass lines, aggressive drumming and that "snotty" vocals.

Screaming Fastcore in exclusive, interviews Garry Cassidy (former band drummer) in order to reveal some unknown details about them. So, here we go!

How old were each one of you when Donuts N' Glory started?
Freddie (bass/vocals) was 21, Brian (guitar) was 18 or 19 and I was 19.

I've seen that sometimes you appear as a 4-piece band. Was Dan a permanent band member?
Dan was a second guitar in the beginning. We asked him to step away for a while and we really tightened up without him. After we made WPRTE we had him come back, but on keyboards.

How did band's name come about?
When DnG formed I was still skating a lot. Cell phones didn't exist and I didn't have a pager yet. The dudes I skated with called our crew OC Donut Crew. I got home late one night and had a voice mail chanting "DONUTS AND GLORY! DONUTS AND GLORY! DONUTS AND GLORY!" We were looking for a name and I liked the sound of it. Guns N' Wankers, Guns N' Roses... Donuts N' Glory! Once I said it to Brian and Freddie it was a done deal.

I feel a huge influence from "Propagandhi - How To Clean Everything" and "NOFX - Punk In Drublic" on your full-length album. Which other bands/albums were an inspiration for that record?
We found Freddie by posting a flyer in a legendary record store in Huntington Beach, California called Vinyl Solution. The internet was in its infancy... The flyer said we were forming a band and looking for a bass player and singer w/ Guttermouth, NOFX and a few others. Freddie was the first guy to call. He ruled from the first time we met. How To Clean Everything had not been released yet. Freddie was a UCI student, old enough to buy us beer and could keep up with Brian's guitar playing, on bass. Freddie didn't want to sing so we tried out a couple singers and hated them all. We really wanted Freddie to sing and he had good lyrics! Things happened so fast I never fully understood the depth of his writing until WPRTE was released and I got all stoned and read along. My mind was blown.

Do you have more unreleased songs apart from "The Bell Song", "The Gord" and "That Way"?
No. Well, there are some songs we wrote early on that didn't make it on the full length and a couple left overs from Freddies first band as well as some stuff we wrote together and only demoed before we really found our sound. Chrono-Unlogical, Before Baywatch and Song are all songs we wrote and started to really put it together, but Mysterious Thunder, Sirens, A Lot of Not Much and Perspective are the songs that we loved and knew we were into something.

Is it true that you played with Blink-182 (when they were called Blink)? Please tell us more about that story.
More than once. Our friend Pat that put out the 7", his sister was dating one of them or something. I loved Chesire Cat. Our first show with them was at an old pay to play venue with chairs and tables so it was kind of lame. They could jumped really high. We played with them a few more times. Scott the original drummer would ask me how to play so fast with a single bass drum pedal. Tom and Mark didn't talk to us much and we were all kind of shy. I eventually pissed them of by drawing a cover for a 'zine that they didn't like, it wasn't very cool of me considering they kept inviting us to play with them.

Which one was your favorite show you ever played, and why?
We played in a cave in Las Vegas. It was rad. I guess the cave was in some movies. Bobba Fett Youth was the band that invited us out there. They set up the cave with PA system running off of generators and bands played all night. Everyone got really drunk.

Why did the band breaks up? Any plans for a Donuts N' Glory reunion show?
The band never really broke up. You can still listen to our music 22 years later so the "band" still exists... We just never played again. I think it was a combination of some people not being satisfied with the way things went with the label, a changing music scene, Freddie is a cultured individual that knew he needed to travel the world, Brian dove head first into computer generator music... I honestly kind felt lost. I lived for DnG and playing drums. I created a band that just when it started to gain positive momentum, POOF, gone. As responsible for the bands creation, I can also take as much responsibility for its demise.

Do you have or did you have more bands/side projects?
During DnG i played with Vitamin L. After DnG I played with the Killingtons when the original drummer left. Brian had a band called Black Bananas and RTX with former members of Royal Trux. I think that band has done some reunion shows. Freddie is involved in an after school music program in Brooklyn, NY. He still rules at life.

Any chance for a "When Pregnasaurs Ruled The Earth..." reissue? Remixed and remastered on vinyl, maybe?
It's not likely to happen. The label wants us to buy the rights to the album and he will give us the analog master tapes but he will not let us confirm the tapes are in good condition. There is some lost VHS footage of us recording WPRTE and I would love to release a dvd but the original tapes owner has passed away.

What do you think of the punk rock scene nowadays?
The only modern punk band I have seen play is PEARS. I fucking love that band. All my old favorite bands are terrible live. Propagandhi and Bad Religion are the only bands that still kick ass live. I miss Tony Sly, he would still be giving 100% every show. Fuck Fat Mike!

Would you like to add something for the people who still follow Donuts N' Glory more than 20 years after its disbanding?
Thank you and I wish I could give you more!

👉 All releases, all presses and nerdery

Donuts N' Glory - Do onuts N' Glory (1995)
This one was their very first recording back in early 1995. They only recorded a practice session on this cassette and printed about 20-30 DIY artwork covers. Shortly after, they gave them all out at a show in La Cave, Las Vegas with Bobba Fett Youth. This was recorded before the 7" EP.

Donuts N' Glory - I Can Pee E.P. (1995)
This 4-song EP was their first official release. It was published by Pinkie Records on 7" black vinyl - 500 copies.
There are two presses with different artwork cover colors, one has blue cover and the other has white cover. Also exists a test-pressing of it through Erika Records.
The song "Jon" was featured on the Liberation Records 1995 compilation, "Teenage Kicks".

Donuts N' Glory - When Pregnasaurs Ruled The Earth... (1996)
WPRTE was their debut full-length album put out on August 30, 1996 via Liberation Records.
This album was pressed on 12" blue marble vinyl, CD and cassette. It was recorded at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood with Donell Cameron, the same studio where Fat Wreck Chords had used for recording many of its bands in their early years. After the release of the record, they toured the west coast once, and toured to the east coast and back twice. Sadly, this one was the last recording they ever did.

Sunsgrind (Full Discography)

Sunsgrind was a super fast and technical skatepunk act from Kanto, Japan formed in 2001.
Personally, these guys are my favorite japanese band, because their music mixes perfectly full-throttle drumming with awesome octave riffing and lots of emotive guitar progressions.
If you take a look on their MySpace profile you'll see Rufio and Sick Of Change on their Top as main influences. That explains why their sound is so good to me.

Well, many people were asking me to share Sunsgrind's full discography on the blog, so here it is. All ripped in MP3 V0 format from the orginal CDs. You find it just here on Screaming Fastcore.

Sunsgrind & Child Lock - Split (2002)
Sunsgrind - Misdirection (2004)
Sunsgrind - Far From A Precipice (2005)

Faith (Full Discography)

Faith was a 4-piece fast melodic punk rock band from Tokyo, Japan active between 2004-2008.
All their records were out through japanese label Caffeine Bomb Records.
Their music mixes highly technical guitar riffs, impressive bass parts and great vocal melodies. Totally in the vein of Strung Out and Rufio.
Hmmm...
Well,  that's all I know about them.
Personally, Faith is my third favorite j-punk band, after Sunsgrind and Waterweed.
Many people were asking me to share Faith's full discography on the blog, so here it is. All ripped in MP3 V0 format from the orginal CDs. You find it just here on Screaming Fastcore.

V.A. - Travelling Through Time On A Skateboard (2017)

"Travelling Through Time On A Skateboard" is a DIY compilation of 25 bands around the globe that brings together melodic punk covers of rock & roll / pop classics from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Most of the songs on in this compilation were taken from official releases of every band. I didn't pick covers already included in compilations like "Punk Goes 80's", "Punk Goes Pop" or similars, because those versions are not fast enough or kinda lame for me. Only "Mistake Us For Friends" and "Valley Of Visions" songs were transcoded from MP3s, all the rest are 100% genuine FLACs.

V.A. - Fast Drinking Erase The Tape (2015)

"Fast Drinking Erase The Tape" is a DIY compilation of 20 bands around the globe and songs with a common theme: THE BOOZE! It was especially created for your Punk Rock parties. All songs are 100% genuine FLACs. Cheers! 🍻

Instrumento: Guitarra y Coros

Nombre: Gerardo Valles Borda

👉 Influencias musicales:

👉 Conciertos virtuales y giras post-pandemia:

Screaming Fastcore Entrevista A Malarrabia

Nombre: Christian Tejada Cabrera
Instrumento: Voz y Guitarra

Nombre: Carlos Gálvez Aguilar
Instrumento: Bajo

Nombre: Jorge Ortiz Vera
Instrumento: Guitarra

Nombre: Hans Juárez Estela
Instrumento: Batería

👉 Influencias musicales:

Much the Same, Pmx, Adrenalized, NOFX, Forus, Useless ID, Cigar, Slick Shoes, etc.
